SpacerAWRA - Watershed Education Program
SpacerPennsylvania State AWRA

In the Spring of 1997, as a part of our outreach program, AWRA Penn State Student members designed a 'watershed education' program to introduce the concepts of watershed and water conservation to school students.  Our chapter conducted the first program in the Spring of 1997 at the Nittany Valley Middle School, Boalsburg, PA. Sixth and Seventh grade students participated in this program. AWRA members lead demonstrations on the origin, quality, biology and movement of water. This demonstration included some hands on experiments involving the audience.

In 1998, to reach out more schools, our chapter sent out letters to various schools around the Penn State area to conduct their watershed program.  Our chapter conducted the watershed education program in the Penn Valley Area High School on May 20, 1998.  This program was attended by seventh grade students.  The program was organized in three parts:

Atmospheric Processes Station
Surface Water Processes Station
Groundwater Processes Station

This program is open for all schools and interested people can contact our student chapter.
