Recent Research/Educational Projects:

Served as an expert witness on the Mullens, WV flood case involving numerous timber and mining companies. (2006)

Developed MensiTutor, available on my Website, to help forestry students learn the basics of forest measurements and inventory

Served as an expert witness on sampling vegetation on rights-of-way in Environmental Consultants International Limited vs Tower Forestry in the High Court of Justice, Liverpool, England. (1999-2000).

Served on a consulting team of the Natural Resources Management Corporation which conducted and reported on "A Nationwide Study Comparing Tree Measurement and Scaled Sale Methods for Selling United States Forest Service Timber" for the USDA Forest Service (1997).

Developed the centroid method of tree volume determination with Geoffrey B. Wood of the Australian National University (1989-91) and have continued to expand application of this procedure with other scientists.

Designed what is thought to be the first application of the 3P sampling
method to a timber trespass inventory.
