Position Description

Legislative and Administrative Coordinator

Objectives

§ Provides administrative, technical, and policy support to the Director of Legislative Affairs in all aspects of the legislative affairs program. Assisting the Director in developing advocacy campaigns on Capitol Hill that ensure congressional actions do not hinder NTF members’ ability to profitably produce high-quality, nutritious products.

§ Assist Director with the management if the NTF Political Action Committee (TURPAC) in a manner that continually increases contributions from the NTF members to TURPAC and enhances the influence TURPAC has on the electoral process.

Relationships

§ Is supervised by the Director of Legislative Affairs and provides support to the NTF President
§ Maintain such relationships with other staff members, industries and vendors as are desirable or necessary in the best interest of NTF and in conformity with NTF objectives and policies.
§ Work with Director to continue to find new opportunities that are creative, to educate Members of Congress and their staffs on the turkey industry. Includes maintaining relationships with state directors and other members that can enhance our efforts.
§ Manage, with the Director, all TURPAC activities
§ Serve as an integral member of the NTF staff, fully-cooperating and coordinating work with other departments.

Responsibilities


§ Work with Director of Legislative Affairs to implement department area goals in a timely manner (Legislative and TURPAC committees).
o Prepare drafts articles for monthly newsletter
o Prepare regular communications to apprise NTF members about the federations legislative activities (Leg, TURPAC, and Executive)
o Manage TURPAC and keep up to date records on budget
o Complete all FEC and Congressional TURPAC filings at their deadlines
o Conduct policy and background research that support legislative objectives (including creating charts, finding statistics, and developing materials that will be distributed on Capitol Hill).
o Assist Director in implementing programs that ensure maximum grassroots involvement by NTF members in the federation’s lobbying activities
§ Attend periodic TURPAC events for which TURPAC funds are disbursed, to be coordinated with Director.
§ Perform general duties as requested by President
§ Assist with TI work
§ Work with office manager/ bookkeeper on general tasks
§ Be willing to think creatively and objectively about problem solving
§ Produce professional work
