Technical Service Representative
Arclin, Moncure, North Carolina
Arclin is a major adhesive supplier to the Wood Products industry. We presently have a Technical Service Representative opening at our Moncure, North Carolina facility. The position will support Arclin’s Composite Resins group which focuses on particleboard, MDF, and hardboard

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical support to Arclin’s customers by supporting efforts directed towards product development and/or process improvement initiatives.

Position Accountabilities

* Support Arclin’s customers by performing routine testing as needed.
* Support Arclin’s product development efforts utilizing application ideas and selection of suitable resin products. Conduct laboratory experiments utilizing designed experiment techniques (where appropriate), and report through written technical papers ­ results, improvement ideas, and conclusions.
* Maintain functional laboratory by: preparing operating procedures, calibrating laboratory equipment, and performing or supporting laboratory maintenance.
* Conduct new product resin trials at customer’s plants. Assess performance using statistical methods and make recommendations on product improvements
* Support customer in developing process improvement ideas. Help assess process performance by collecting, analyzing and reporting process data. Develop strategies for improving performance in the customer’s process and support improvement changes.
* Work with Arclin’s production department to support product management though development of manufacturing targets, customer specifications, and supporting process improvement initiatives.

Job Specifications


· Minimum Education: B.S. degree. Engineering, Wood Science, Chemistry or related discipline desired.

· Minimum Experience: Experience in wood products industry, resin research facility, or similar field would be beneficial

· Skills:
* Ability to grasp the technical and scientific aspects of resins and their application in the various wood product fields.
* Experience coordinating and participating in applications studies using design of experiment techniques.
* Communication (written and oral) and organizational abilities required
* Working knowledge of Data Analysis (SPC) software ­ Quality Analyst, DOE software (Stat-ease) and techniques
* Experienced with typical personal computers and associated software (Word Processing, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Statease, NWA ­ Quality Analyst software etc.).

· Effort:
* Must be self-motivated to learn and perform job requirements with minimal direct supervision or instruction.
* Must be capable managing multiple job duties simultaneously while continuously updating priorities.

· Working Conditions:
1. Work conditions will vary from office, laboratory, to customer mill
2. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials for which personal protective equipment must by used/worn.
3. Business travel by car and plane is expected.
