Henry Clepper Intern in Natural Resource Policy


SAF's Henry Clepper Forest Policy Internship at SAF's national office in Bethesda, MD, is now available for graduate or upper-level undergraduate students enrolled in accredited forestry programs, other natural resource programs, or in public policy programs with a forestry background. Knowledge of the programs, positions, and services of the Society of American Foresters is a plus. Interns serve as assistant to the director of forest policy and will be perform duties such as preparing background reports, monitoring legislation, and serving as a liaison to other natural resource organizations.

Stipend: $1000 per month.

Time Commitment: flexible

Position Title: Henry Clepper Intern in Natural Resource Policy

Status: Full-time employee for six months

Supervisor: Director, Forest Policy

Duties: Assist the Forest Policy Department Team, to accomplish the Society's natural resource policy goals.

Qualifications: Current upper-level undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a SAF-accredited forestry program or recent graduates of said programs. Experience in natural resources management and/or policy, and a knowledge of SAF preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate well both orally and in writing required. Initiative, motivation, and adaptability are essential.

Responsibilities: Undertake support activities for the Forest Policy Department Team; Attend Congressional hearings, track legislation, and prepare briefs on current policy issues; Assist in the development of recommendations to Congress; Provide policy information to SAF members through articles published in The Forestry Source, and other SAF publications; Aid development of stakeholder coalitions; Attend Council meetings; Work with the Committee on Forest Policy, World Forestry Committee (where applicable), and other policy related committees; and Perform other duties as assigned.
